Castle, I love you man, but are you kidding me?
When they were cool enough to have Ryan and I there, they were still running off start-up funds (as far as I've been able to tell) when they had the biz-dev conference. And the point of that conference was to inform the sales staff on what YT was all about, so they could go out and actually make money by selling real ads (and not the Google Adsense ads they'd had until that point).
Besides, the price of that conference was basically renting a big hotel ballroom, not exactly a huge expense. I mean, don't make it out like they were burning through millions in a pre-Bubble 1990s-style, Pets.com way.
And enough with the F-bombs. You sound like a junior-high kid.
Look, I'm not taking a back-seat to anyone when it comes to advocating this new style of media, the freedom, the grassroots authenticity, the creativity, the wild-west balls-out attitude, but the bottom line is if we can't figure out a way to get producers money for what they do, they'll stop doing it. What happened to LonelyGirl when she wanted to make real money? She left the show. If we all want more ASK A NINJA, or whatever, we need the creators paid, like the creators of old-media shows.
Or let me put it another way: If we were able to make a certain level of cash, we'd still be cranking out four episdes a month.
I love you man.
